Overview
UAN production in fertiliser production
Nitrogen monitoring to product assurance of UAN production
Probably the most common liquid fertiliser urea ammonium nitrate solution (UAN) is manufactured from urea, water and ammonium nitrate solution, which develops after certain pre-processes from ammonia. The required nitrogen content of the liquid fertiliser and the pH value can be adjusted by dosing the amount of ammonium in the process accordingly. At the end, the UAN fertiliser contains nitrogen in three different forms (ammonium, nitrate and urea). The liquid urea which is no longer required for UAN production is stored in tanks at the end before being shipped for further processing.
KROHNE has a wide range of measuring equipment available for the manufacture of high-quality liquid fertiliser, for example for level and flow measurement. Although the preliminary product, urea solution, is mostly neutral as an organic liquid and less corrosive, UAN corrodes bare iron and non-ferrous metals. This means that all of the components carrying liquid, as well as all the measuring systems need to be non-corroding accordingly and resistant to liquid fertiliser.
